They do you know. More so than my soup troupe girls.
Somehow I always remember the guys devouring
a lot more crabs.
It is now a Sunday, and I’m a week late with this
post, (note: this was uploaded late, the dinner was on
the 19th) and the boys may already be grumbling because
they are attention whores eager bunnies.
Anyway, after deciding for a while now that we
had not seen each other for a bit, we decided to go
to SouthSea Restaurant, near Subang airport
for our usual crab-eating feast. We like SouthSea,
and have been several times. It seems to have grown even
more popular. It was heaving when we got there -
even had to line up to wash our hands!

The thing is with the boys, the word effort comes more into
play. With the girls, it has always been pretty effortless,
hasn’t it? We got into the habit of mass-emailing each other
pretty early on – I reckon us girls have been doing that since 1997,
since we all started going overseas and all – so it’s been pretty
much a mainstay forever with the souptroupe.

With the boys however, ever since the days of BB-Sri Aman
it had to do a lot with calling-calling, melepak bersama-sama,
meeting every other day or so… We didn’t have all the
crazy chatting sessions I had a lot with the girls,
we kind of made up for it by being very close to each other,
all the time. We were spending every single day together,
most of us anyway. Of course, nowadays that’s changed.
We have to try harder more than ever now, don’t we boys?
(I’m preparing for sarcastic, lewd, naughty replies from
them now)

But some things don’t change. They tease me about the latest
boy in my life (they’re convinced it’s some imaginary
bloke named Jason, and that’s news to me -_ -)
They tease Azad about his girlfriend, who we haven’t met
yet.
They tease Azad (again) about his eating abilities.
He once whacked 7 chapatis in one go, and is known
to polish off buffets and our leftovers – that is the legend
that he is. They tease Boy bout his auntie-complaining/
Prefect-in-Bangkok ways. Actually, I think we kind of
tease everyone about something else or the other.

So yes, I have dinner with the boys (I consider Sara [Boy's wife]
one of the boys and my sister, she was there before any other
partner of theirs, and knows them all as well as I. I adore her :)
We all update each other on our news (we call them
“announcements”) Jay tells us he is to be a father again,
congratulations Jay & Za! We talk about Azad’s girl,
we talk about the latest in my life, and the boys tell me about
their riot of a Bangkok trip aka Nana’s stag night.
They had asked me to go along but on principle, I will
never ever go to their stag nights because no matter what it’s
still a guy thing, and I want to respect that of course.
We laugh at all their funny stories in BKK, and they tell me some
interesting things which may me go Hmmmmmm.

I wonder about effort, and about how sometimes you give face
to certain people in the name of friendship or affection,
and if they end up making you look silly or stupid in front
of others. I don’t know. I wonder about reciprocation and if
people take the time to think about the effort their loved ones
make for them. I wonder about when they get fed up,
and stop trying. I wonder at what point they say enough
about Jaga-ing Muka Engkau when Engkau Tak Bagi Muka
Pada Aku.
Oops sorry, went off on one there.

Love you guys xo
